Pete Sklaroff is a professional guitarist and a highly respected music educator in the UK with over 25+ years experience of guitar and music teaching, touring and professional recording work both in the UK and abroad.
With an extensive background in both Jazz and Rock/Blues guitar performance, Pete is now much sought after as both a session guitar player and as a high quality guitar teacher specialising in everything from bebop jazz guitar through to Classic Rock and Pop guitar styles.
Pete began his musical career in his hometown of Edinburgh and started playing professionally with the legendary Scottish Blues band ‘Blues ‘N’ Trouble’ in the early 1980s. After touring and recording with this group he moved to England to study jazz guitar full-time at the City of Leeds College of Music in Yorkshire.
After graduating from CLCM with a First in Guitar Performance, Pete began touring and recording with a number of different jazz and rock groups and played in support of a variety of well-known musical artists such as: ‘Tears For Fears’, Labbi Sifre, Jack Bruce and ‘Runrig’ to name just a few.
In more recent years, he has completed session work for singer/songwriter Saffron Byass and several clients in Austria, Sweden and Germany. He also played guitar on the Austrian Number One rock single – ‘Victim of Love’ alongside Thomas Blug and Leonard Pospichal (see video opposite)
Pete was an invited guest tutor and performer at the first Scottish Guitar and Music Festival in May 2013 and currently operates a highly successful online teaching practice (Complete Guitar Lessons) where his many guitar students come from countries as diverse as Japan, India, Colombia, USA, Sweden, Australia and Finland.
Pete also regularly contributes to a number of internet based music sites (including Guitar Player magazine in the US) and he recorded many of the audio examples for the best selling instructional guitar books produced through the very popular Fundamental Changes website.
Teaching Experience & Personal Studies
Pete is the former Assistant Head of Music and Head of Jazz Studies at Leeds College of Music in the UK and was also the Instrumental Coordinator for all Guitar & Bass Studies at the same college for many years, where he taught Jazz Improvisation, Harmony and Performance/Instrumental Studies.
Pete has also taught at Leeds Metropolitan University, Sheffield University (Barnsley College), as well as in numerous schools and Colleges as a guest teacher. He was also a visiting tutor and guest performer at the first Scottish Guitar and Music Festival in 2013.
Pete studied advanced jazz harmony and single-line improvisation for several years by correspondence with the late and world-renowned jazz pedagogue Charlie Banacos in the USA. His other studies include tuition from Jeff Andrews (USA)
Pete’s diverse guitar playing skills have drawn praise from many sources, including legendary Deep Purple and Whitesnake rock vocalist David Coverdale, fingerstyle master Adrian Legg, jazz- fusion and session legend Larry Carlton and jazz guitar maestro Howard Roberts.
